Officially, The race course in Colombo was opened in 1893 and was recognized as the best in the East by design, size and convenience. During the Second World War it was used as an airfield. And in 2014 after the reconstruction was transferred to the Rugby stadium. Now it is the Colombo Racecourse Sports Complex.
